Organization of the Book

Section One

This section answers the question: "Why build green?"

Chapter 1 focuses on the market, consumer trends, and consumer desires for environmentally considerate products.

Chapter 2 shows the context for green homes and the big picture environmental issues that are the "drivers" for the long-term market.

If you are familiar with the basics of green building you might want to jump right into Section Two for "how-tos" and come back to Section One for references.

Section Two

This section answers the question: "How can I become a green builder?"

Chapter 3 shows you how to enter the market, step by step. You will learn about the issues, the costs, and the process to get you started.

Chapter 4 guides you through the process of becoming a green business and getting participation from your employees and trades contractors.

Section Three

This section answers the question: "How can I successfully market and sell green homes?" You will see how other builders have used innovative sales and marketing approaches that have been highly successful.

Chapter 5 shows you how to turn green building into a "marketing bonanza," as a builder in Austin, Texas, calls it.

Chapter 6 takes you step-by-step through selling your homes in ways your customers will get excited about.

Chapter 7 gives you case studies that can assist you in selling green. Appendicies

The appendicies provide handy references and resources for more in-depth information.

Appendix A outlines six HBA programs and gives you the checklists from four of those programs.

Appendix B provides resource information: reading list, web sites, organizations and HBA Green Builder program contacts.

Appendix C is a bibliography. Symbols
