Online House Hunting Increases
The Pew Internet and American Life initiative found that 40 million Americans, one-third of all Internet users in the United States, have looked for housing information online, an increase of 66% since March 2000.
The study, titled “Hunting for a Place to Live,” found that on any given day approximately 3 million Americans are online looking for a place to live, and house hunters are “diverse and distributed relatively equally along racial, gender and income lines.”
The most active demographic groups are users who are 18 to 29 years old (47%), unmarried (58%), suburbanites (55%), professionals or executives (36%), and online daily (58%).
