Driving Targeted Leads

May 31, 2004

Custom builders, regional builders and remodelers may want to consider ServiceMagic.com as a new resource for driving leads to their businesses. Based in Golden, Colo., ServiceMagic.com is a Web site that connects consumers with pre-screened residential contractors and service providers across the country.

Founded in 1998 by Rodney Rice and Michael Beaudoin, the site went live in October 1999 and to date has had more than 2.4 million customer requests. Builders and remodelers only pay for the leads they receive, and leads are highly targeted by location and type of work.

Consumers are increasingly using the site to find building services, says Elaine Stoch, spokesperson for ServiceMagic.com. The No. 1 service request during the first quarter of 2004 was "to buy a home." "Building an addition to a home" and "building a custom home" were the No. 4 and No. 7 requests, respectively.

The site also includes design ideas and homeowner tips from experts. For more information on how a builder can be listed, see www.servicemagic.com or call 866/222-MAGIC (6244). The service screens potential new member to ensure it has its state-required trade and business licensing and insurance coverage. Once approved, the new member will begin receiving leads, says Stoch.
