Resilience in the Remodeling Industry

This past weekend I attended the 2007 Remodeling Show at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas. I am happy to report that the recent changes in the housing market do not appear to be impacting the remodeling industry as much as they have new home construction.

One of the reasons for this is that there are still areas of growth within the remodeling sector. As people customize their homes and settle in for a longer stay, remodeling becomes a necessary endeavor. One of the areas of growth is in the aging-in-place remodels which increase ease of accessibility and control for inhabitants with decreased dexterity. I saw a large number of products at the Remodeling Show which address these changing needs, especially for the kitchen and bath. I am interested to see how our industry will approach coming population shifts as baby boomers look to get more comfortable and prepare for the coming years. There will be many new needs to consider.
