Lamps Plus - An Award Winning Idea for Outdoor Kitchen Lighting

Our Lighting for Life scholarship winner was announced on Thursday, April 10th. Briana Bjerke from Alexandria Technical College was this year’s winner. Her ideas for lighting an outdoor kitchen are practical and innovative.

Outdoor kitchens are typically underlit because of the lack of surrounding structure. This can make it difficult to prepare food there. Briana had a great idea for using regular outdoor lighting in a new way.

We were especially charmed by Briana’s idea of placing deck lights in the toe kick to provide ground illumination. This makes it easy to pick up dropped utensils and clean up after cooking.

She also suggests positioning two Vanira Place energy-star wall lights above the stove and counters for the general task lighting. For more ambient lighting she then adds two outdoor post lights.
