February 14, 2008 -- While the rest of the country is celebrating Valentine's Day and wearing red, the International Builders' Show here in Orlando is sporting a completely different shade - green - in the form of Green Day, the industry's show of love for the environment. Everywhere you look, people are wearing green, attending news conferences and green-themed educational sessions and talking about the growing green movement. Today also marks the launch of the NAHB's new National Green Building program and a certified green professional designation.
To earn the certified-green designation, builders, remodelers and other industry pros must have at least two years of sustainable building experience and be involved in the construction of at least one green home in a 24-month period. Certified green professionals must also complete a two-day training and education session and an NAHB University of Housing management course. The designation also requires continuing education and adhering to an industry code of ethics. Check back here for a followup post on all the exciting news that comes out of the show today.
