Host a seminar

College City Remodeling in Lakeview, Minn., uses a series of consumer seminars to market the company and gain business during the winter months, and if you've ever been to Minnesota in the winter, you know that it's a dreadful environment for a consumer to want to start a remodeling project in. The effort is working well for College City, and it could work for you, too. They use email blasts to vendors, subs, past clients and other "friends" of the company to promote the events and usually fill their showroom with strong prospects, not tire kickers. Offering a discount on any project scheduled the night of the seminar also helps.

My old company Classic Homeworks is still holding their Seminar two years after I sold the company. During my time we sold almost one job per seminar and we only required 12-15 jobs per year to fill our books. What we found is that these seminars allowed us to meet people who really wanted to remodel but were afraid to begin the process and invite contractors into their homes. By coming to us first and allowing us to alleviate their fears we reached clients that none of our other marketing would have reached.
