Census Bureau Letting Remodelers Down

At the recent Harvard Remodeling Futures Steering Committee meeting, of which I'm on the Board of Directors, it was announced that the U.S. Census Bureau plans to stop producing quarterly reports on residential improvements and repairs at the end of this year. Harvard, and many other entities including Professional Remodeler, uses this data to track remodeling trends, and it serves as the benchmark for Harvard's Leading Indicator of Remodeling Activity. The National Association of Home Builders is leading an effort to retain funding for this data. If you'd like to join a letter writing campaign to help your industry, download a copy of their form letter, which you can modify as needed. If you have any questions, you can email me and I'll be glad to help. NAHB is asking that these letters be mailed by Friday, November 9.
