The first time I met Don Novak, 2005 Chairman of the NAHB Remodelers, was in early 2005. It's hard to believe we've only known each other for two years, because every time I see him now, a handshake is soon followed by a hug and that warm, genuine smile Don is known for. That's why I was hit very hard by the news that Don was recently diagnosed with lung cancer, as were most who know this gentle, midwestern man. The NAHB Remodelers honored Don at the recent NAHB Spring Board meeting in Washington, D.C. with a roast at their Remodelers Night Out. And now they've teamed up with the Greater Cedar Rapids Home Builders Association, Don's local HBA, to collect donations for the National Housing Endowment in Don's honor.
