Jonathan Sweet - Remodeling Notes

Jay Sweet
As senior editor of Professional Remodeler, a lot of information crosses my desk. This blog will be a chance to share some of that with you, with an immediacy not possible with a monthly magazine. It's also your chance to tell me what you think about what I have to say. Whether you agree or disagree, I hope you won't be shy.

Housing bill could become official this week

President Bush has dropped his opposition to the housing bill, meaning the package could become law by the end of the week, according to the NY Times

(Maybe this has something to do with the fact that he's in the market for a house now!)

I realize it's not perfect, but at least it's something. The portions shoring up Fannie and Freddie might calm the market a bit and the tax incentives for first time home buyers should help sales a little -- of course, they still have to get a mortgage. My natural inclination is to be against anything that smacks of a bailout, but (barn door open ... horse gone) with Bear Stearns and its ilk getting help, I guess it's only fair for something to trickle down to builders and buyers as well.
