Jonathan Sweet - Remodeling Notes

Jay Sweet
As senior editor of Professional Remodeler, a lot of information crosses my desk. This blog will be a chance to share some of that with you, with an immediacy not possible with a monthly magazine. It's also your chance to tell me what you think about what I have to say. Whether you agree or disagree, I hope you won't be shy.

Multi-link Monday: Remodeling market even worse?

Here's your latest round-up of interesting home-related news and links:

  • The Calculated Risk blog looks at why they think Harvard's prediction for the decline in the remodeling market is too optimistic. They cite falling home prices, dropping sales at the big boxes and past remodeling downturns as the reasons.
  • The homeowners who sued their real estate agent because they thought they paid too much for their house have lost their case.
  • Next month, the NAHB Remodelers will be launching a year-long "Remodel Now" campaign, with press releases, articles, etc., remodelers can use to promote now as being a good time to remodel a home.
  • Need a good market to focus on? Try the city. This article notes the rise in prices in Manhattan and this one that, while noting the bad results for the state of Illinois, points out the rising prices in the city of Chicago. These are just the latest of many I've seen that show prices staying strong in desirable urban areas.
