Jonathan Sweet - Remodeling Notes

Jay Sweet
As senior editor of Professional Remodeler, a lot of information crosses my desk. This blog will be a chance to share some of that with you, with an immediacy not possible with a monthly magazine. It's also your chance to tell me what you think about what I have to say. Whether you agree or disagree, I hope you won't be shy.

The Invisible Hand returns and homeowners get religion

A few things that have caught my eye lately ...

  • This Modern World looks at The Invisible Hand guiding the housing Market. He's a little worse for wear since we saw him last year.
  • Sales of St. Joseph's statues are soaring, according to the Wall Street Journal. Many people believe that burying a statue of St. Joseph upside-down in your yard will help your home sell faster. I had a couple of people suggest that to me when I was selling my house in 2006-07. I didn't try it, so can't offer my advice!
  • San Diego has become the latest large metro area to require recycling of construction debris. It's a nice idea, but the focus should really be on reducing the amount of waste produced. This could have that effect, though, because recycling will be more of a pain than throwing it in the landfill.
