Outlook not bright for exurbs

This is an interesting post from the Calculated Risk blog on Friday (would have posted earlier, but I had a good reason to miss it ... I was at Wrigley Field watching the biggest Cubs comeback in 19 years.)
But I digress ...
The post uses the Los Angeles metro area to illustrate something I've talked about before, how prices continue to decline most steeply in the so-called "exurbs" and are staying (relatively) strong in the city proper and closest suburbs. Rising gas prices should only continue to worsen this problem, along with what I believe will be a fundamental shift in the way younger consumers look at housing. (I wrote about this in the May print edition.)
