Jonathan Sweet - Remodeling Notes

Jay Sweet
As senior editor of Professional Remodeler, a lot of information crosses my desk. This blog will be a chance to share some of that with you, with an immediacy not possible with a monthly magazine. It's also your chance to tell me what you think about what I have to say. Whether you agree or disagree, I hope you won't be shy.

IBS Update - Maybe Kermit was wrong

Maybe it is easy being green. It sure seems that way here in Orlando, where green is definitely the word of the show. Every manufacturer I've talked to so far is touting their green/energy efficient/sustainable, etc. products.

At the same time, most of them admit they're a little worried about this focus on green, that the saturation of the market could turn off consumers. After all, if everyone's "green" homeowners don't really know what to think.

Otherwise, there seems to be a generally resigned mood here. Nobody seems to be as optimistic as they were a year ago that this is a short-lived decline in the housing market. Many manufacturers chose to skip this year's show (Fortune Brands, Milwaukee and Jacuzzi to name a few.) and it seems like attendance is down.

It doesn't help that it's the fourth year in a row here in Orlando, I'm sure. Maybe next year in Las Vegas will be better.
