Remodelers uneasy about market

A quick round-up of construction and remodeling-related news you may have missed:
- The NAHB released its latest Remodeling Market Index this morning. It shows that remodelers are not very confident in the market right now and don't expect it to get much better in the near future, but the index is well above where the new construction market is tracking right now.
- Also from NAHB, the group recently posted a good article on networking by Victoria Downing of Remodelers Advantage.
- The government and mortgage industry continue to work on their plan to bail ... I mean help ... out subprime borrowers that I wrote about last week. (Read updates here, here and here.) It doesn't seem like the average business reader has much faith in the government to get it right, though: 94 percent of respondents (as of this morning) to a poll on CNBC.com say they don't think the plan will help the right people.
- The Smart Fortwo cars that I wrote about in the November issue should be hitting our shores en masse early next year. More than 30,000 people have already placed an order.
