NAHB Releases New Edition of Residential Construction Performance Guidelines
October 1, 2000
Professional Remodeler
Two new versions of an industry leading book can help builders and remodelers reinforce their warranty programs.
The latest edition of NAHB’s Residential Construction Performance Guidelines can help home builders and remodelers stop shaving dollars off their bottom lines. Newly updated, the guidelines are the industry’s most widely accepted reference on how homes should be built. The book has proven itself an important tool for managing customer expectations and forms the basis of a successful home building warranty program.
Residential Construction Performance Guidelines, second edition, was updated and revised with the assistance of builders and remodelers from across the country. It includes 240 guidelines in 12 major categories of new residential construction and remodeling, covering everything from foundation work to floor finishes.
For the past four years, home builders and remodelers have found the guidelines invaluable. Many regularly refer to the guidelines in their presentation books and include them in their warranty programs. They use the book to help customers understand the basics of a properly constructed home -- and how it should perform during the warranty period. The guidelines can help prevent and resolve customer complaints without having to resort to third-party arbitration or litigation. They can also support marketing efforts -- they demonstrate to prospective customers that their builder or remodeler is a professional who consistently builds to meet or exceed the accepted industry guidelines.
NAHB now offers Residential Construction Performance Guidelines in two formats. The contractors reference version is spiral bound with a durable vinyl cover for years of use. It is available for $24.95. The affordable paper-bound, homeowners-reference version, sold in packs of 10 copies for $49.95, is designed so builders and remodelers can provide a copy to every customer.
