With growing interest in green remodeling, contractors, designers and architects might want to read The Resourceful Renovator, A Gallery of Ideas for Reusing Building Materials. The book discusses ways to reuse building materials, from granite foundations to millwork to lighting to ceramic fixtures.

Written by Jennifer Corson and published by Chelsea Green Publishing Co., the 250-page paperback includes information about the value of salvageable building materials -- of interest during demolition in old buildings -- and the costs to replace them. It also offers dozens of ideas for nontraditional uses of salvaged materials, such as making a table from an old iron grate and or using an old window as a kitchen pot rack.

Resources for obtaining building materials from old buildings and case studies of successful projects using salvaged materials are also included as well as background information of how some of the materials are made.
