With nine colors and accessories to match, this hardboard system is a premium alternative to unfinished and vinyl siding.
Hardboard remains the popular choice for exterior cladding in numerousmarkets around the country. But many builders also prefer the convenience of pre-finished siding. In certain northern locales that enjoy only a short painting season, pre-finished product is a practical necessity, says David Murphy, LP Corporation's marketing manager for wood-composite siding.
ColorSide™ pre-finished siding from ABTco offers a premium alternative to vinyl and unfinished hardboard. Featured on a side elevation of the LP Behind the Walls House, ColorSide is a complete lap-siding system, with nine colors to meet an array of tastes and color preferences.
Design versatility also is enhanced through a host of matching color accessories, including two-piece outside corner bases and caps, inside corners, J-trim, starter strip, matching color nails, caulk, joint moulding and even touch-up paint.

Exclusive Manufacturing Process
ColorSide owes its good looks and durability to ABTco’s unique Pro-1 manufacturing process. Step one is the fusion finish, which involves coating the half-inch substrate board with a natural fiber filament overlay enriched with resins and linseed oil. Multiple layers of primer and paint then are applied to the surface and edges to “lock in” the hue.
The next phase in the Pro-1 process is the creation of a natural, cedar-grain texture that complements virtually any architectural style. The grain effect is embossed into the substrate’s surface rather than machined. The result is a more natural-looking and visually distinctive finish whose structural integrity has not been compromised by cutting or carving.
The penultimate step in the Pro-1 process entails oven-curing each plank to remove all natural and process moisture. Lastly, using tightly controlled procedures, some of that moisture is restored to a precise level to ensure consistently high strength and stability in every plank produced.
Smooth and Easy Installation
The half-inch-thick substrate makes ColorSide planks more rigid, so they more easily lie flat on a home’s exterior. Their 16-foot length provides 33% more coverage than standard 12-foot boards, helping shorten installation time. An interlocking, self-aligning system for connecting the planks also speeds fabrication while resulting in a more stable and level installation.
