ROCKEFELLER CENTER BRINGS WEEKLY HARVEST FESTIVAL AND GREENMARKET TO THE HEART OF MIDTOWN

New Farmers Market Includes Lunchtime Musical Performances, Cooking Demonstrations and Children's Activities

(New York, NY - October 11, 2002) Rockefeller Center today launched its first weekly Harvest Festival and Farmers Market. The festival and market will run Fridays and Saturdays from October 11 through November 16 from 8:30AM - 6:00PM on the Plaza at Rockefeller Center (51st Street b/t 5th & 6th Avenues) and is free and open to the public. The Rockefeller Center Farmers Market is sponsored by D.R. Horton and Samsung Staron.

New Yorkers will be able to enjoy fresh vegetables, flowers and baked goods from local farmers each week as well as tasting events and cooking demonstrations by chefs from midtown restaurants. There will also be lunchtime musical performances by a jazz trio. The following is the schedule of chefs participating in the lunchtime cooking demonstrations:

The market will also offer children's activities such as face painting, puppet shows, and balloon animals every Saturday. There will also be pumpkin carving and decorating on Saturday, October 26. The weekly market will be held in conjunction with the New York City Greenmarket Council. The Greenmarket Council operates over 35 markets citywide during peak season providing fruits, vegetables, and farm products to New Yorkers. The building of the temporary kitchen used in the cooking demonstrations each week was co-sponsored by Samsung Staron, manufacturer of Staron solid counter surfaces, and D.R. Horton, one of the top five builders of homes in the U.S. Rockefeller Center is the site of numerous public exhibits and events. Each day an estimated 250,000 people walk through the Rockefeller Plaza complex, which is home to the most famous Christmas Tree in the world.
