The American Institute of Architects (AIA), commissioned a study of communities with populations greater than 50,000 to spotlight the growth and effectiveness of green building practices. Since 2003, the AIA says the number of cities with green building programs has risen from 22 to 92 for an increase of 418%.
The report, Local Leaders in Sustainability, reveals that one in seven cities surveyed currently have green building programs. This ratio will improve to one in five by next year, according to cities’ projections, with 36 cities in an advanced stage off developing a green building program. If you want to learn more about this study go to http://blog.aia.org/ces/.
The United States Green Building Council has given us the LEED Program and the National Association of Home Builders will be announcing its new Green Building Guidelines in February. All of this has created a tremendous green building momentum that will only grow. But with this momentum come confusion, conflicting claims and mistrust. The manufacturers and companies like mine, Builder Partnerships, LLC will have to take the lead in simplifying the green building process for the average builder and consumer and I believe they will be up for the challenge.
