Supply Chain Connections

Glen Singer
This blog will discuss how builders and manufactures can derive mutual benefits from forging in-depth relationships and by developing a continued dialogue on issues and opportunities facing both. It will identify the “gaps” that exist today between the two entities and explore how to close these gaps in such a way that each will benefit. It will also expose “real life” builder and manufacturer relationship successes as well as failures.

Making Good Use of Time

As our industry gets deeper and deeper into the doldrums of this down market many of the builders, manufacturers and others in the distribution channel have reacted in one of two ways. There is a group that just sits around and complains and indulges in self-pity. These are the folks that I personally want to avoid as I don’t need this kind of negative energy. The other group of industry members tries to turn these hard times into something positive – they are participating in educational programs via the web. Yes, they have acknowledged that the market is at an all time low but rather than sit around and complain they are attempting to better themselves and their businesses.

My company, Builder Partnerships, LLC has initiated a series of Webinar educational sessions for builders and other industry members. The sessions deal with design center management, improving the purchasing process, improving sales techniques, how to manage your relationship with your banker and so on. The instructors are well-known industry leaders like Chuck Shinn, Ross Robins and Jim Weigel and they are attempting to assist builders to adopt techniques and strategies that will assist them in not only to survive this downturn but come out of it stronger. I am very pleased that the attendance is growing on a weekly basis.

If you are interested in participating in one or more of these fantastic educational sessions visit our website at www.builderpartnerships.com and view the upcoming schedule.

I know I have read that as the costs of everything goes up, building and remodeling jobs decrease. It seems that one of the only avenue of new business that is growing is the eco-green revolution. People do know that spending money on new technology will help them save it in the long run. The upcoming 5th edition of ISH North America on October 1 – 3, 2008 in Atlanta, GA at the Georgia World Congress Center will focusing on green technology this year with: • Green Focused Seminars • UA Green Training Trailers • Renewable Energies Exhibits • Georgia Institute of technology Solar House Tour • Technology and Controls Pavilion • New Green Products Showcase It's great because the products will be getting into the hands of the contractors and installers, who then can pass on this knowledge to their clients. For more info, please see the ISH NA website.
