While I don’t know who specifically will make these changes, I will speculate on which elements of the supply chain will step up in this area. In my opinion it will be some national home builders and some large, national suppliers. I realize that it has been some time since we have read about Centex and Lennar getting involved in changing the supply chain so many of us might think that they have abandoned these strategies. But I think they have just shifted priorities trying to adjust to the market changes of the last year. I believe that these two national builders and others will step up when the time is right to implement some powerful changes in the supply chain.
Let’s not forget some of the large national suppliers like Guardian, Blue Linx and Stock as they have the resources and presence to change the chain in some big ways as well. No, I don’t have any inside information about these companies, it just makes sense that big changes in the supply chain will come from big players. Time will tell.
