Immigrant Home Demand

March 1, 2002
Professional Builder

Census Bureau figures demonstrate just how massive the influx of immigrants has been in the United States. Today, 11% of all households are headed by foreign-born individuals.

On average, the rate of homeownership among nonnative residents rises dramatically after they live in the U.S. for a decade. Approximately 7.6 million immigrants came here from 1991 to ’98, setting the stage for a boost in new home demand across many market areas in coming years.
