This spring, glassmakers will offer builders and window buyers another feature to consider: self-cleaning glass. The glass incorporates a hydrophilic and photocatalytic coating. The result is a window that allows the sun’s ultraviolet rays to break down dirt. When water (rain or from a hose) sheets across the window, the debris is carried away.
Currently, PPG Industries and Pilkington offer self-cleaning glass technology, and many window manufacturers have said they will offer the glass. Find more information at www.ppgsunclean.com and www.activglass.com.
