Housing history was made at the NAHB's recent International Builders' Show when the country's three regional model building code organizations merged into a single entity, the International Code Council, in an official signing ceremony.

The NAHB believes this benefits the residential construction industry. It results in a single organization that is stronger, more streamlined and better equipped to combat challenges to the adoption of the International Residential Code, the first national residential building code developed with significant home builder input and a focus on housing affordability. Further, it results in the ICC's becoming a single source for the code-related services that builders need and eliminates regional differences that drive up the cost of construction.

The NAHB recognized the need for a simple, user-friendly, stand-alone residential code that included housing affordability as a major component and joined with the ICC in that effort. This merger brings us closer to achieving this goal, and the NAHB looks forward to working with the ICC to build more quality housing that’s affordable for working families nationwide.
