Project Name: Coalgate Modular Plant - Unit 1 Location: Coalgate, Okla. Designer/Architect: Jim Newcomb Associates Architects and Engineers Inc. Builder: Coalgate Modular Plant Developer: Housing Authority of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma Square Footage: 1,250 Price: $36,000 |
The goal of this program, implemented by the Housing Authority of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, is to offer eligible Native Americans an alternative to purchasing single-wide mobile homes, which traditionally do not appreciate in value. The 33 modular homes featured for this project allow qualifying individuals, who would otherwise be forced to rent low-quality housing, to become homeowners at an affordable price. This collaborative effort makes it possible for the homes to be manufactured and sold for the price of materials only. The plant itself employs local people who would otherwise have to travel to a metropolitan area to obtain employment. The modular homes feature numerous customization options. Three-bedroom Unit 1 features separate living and dining rooms, an efficiency kitchen, a separate utility room and a master bedroom with its own full bath.
