Within18 months after the Vinyl Siding Institute (VSI) launched its Certified Installer Program, which trains and tests vinyl siding professionals on standardized installation techniques, the program has reached the milestone of 817 VSI Certified Installers nationwide.
Launched in spring 2005, VSI’s Certified Installer Program requires vinyl siding professionals to demonstrate their knowledge of vinyl siding installation techniques based on the industry standard, ASTM D4756, before they can be listed on VSI’s Web registry at www.vinylsiding.org [1]. When hiring a VSI Certified Installer, consumers and contractors can be confident that their installer has the skills to properly install vinyl siding and accessories, so that the home’s vinyl siding will look great and perform well.
“Builders and homeowners want to ensure their vinyl siding goes on properly and maintains its beauty for years to come,” said VSI President Jery Y. Huntley.“Now, vinyl siding professionals can demonstrate that they know the best way to install the product and set themselves apart from the competition.”
VSI’s certification process involves a combination of classroom training, hands-on instruction, and a written test given by a VSI Certified Trainer. To qualify for VSI’s Certified Installer Program, candidates must have at least one year of experience installing vinyl siding and accessories. Installers with at least three years of experience can receive certification by passing the VSI examination. All VSI Certified Installers must apply for re-certification after their first two years of certification and every three years after that, ensuring that they are using the most up-to-date installation techniques.
