This cottage-style home is set off the main road on a lot that backs up to a large back yard. The front entrance of the house is positioned off to the side and inconvenient to access from the driveway. The homeowners wanted to turn the back of the house into the main entrance and were interested in taking advantage of the large yard. The existing, deteriorating patio and enclosure were demolished and replaced with a new multi-level deck that spans the width of the house. The decking material is a wood / plastic composite, and synthetic rails were used on the project. The new deck is approximately 600 square feet and features a spa. New glass sliders in the rear rooms of the house open to the deck, integrating the interior with the exterior landscape. Each level of the deck is flush with an entrance of its own. Two sliders were added to the dining room, creating two walls of glass in the dining room to the exterior deck. A spa is at the same level as the sunroom, allowing users to walk out without having to step up or down. An extra-wide stairway leads down to the yard. |
