International Living Future Institute launches building products label program

The International Living Future Institute announced the launch of Delcare, an ingredients label for building products.

Declare acts as a “nutrition label,” by providing manufacturers and specifiers of building materials with a list of the product’s components. Compatible with the Living Building Challenge, Delcare provides product transparency by answering three questions: where a product comes from, what it is made of, and where is goes at the end of its life.

“Toxic chemicals and compounds are pervasive in building products, endangering human health and the resilience of our ecosystems. They not only harm building occupants, they cause damage all along their lifecycle,” explains Amanda Sturgeon, vice president of the International Living Future Institute and director of the Living Building Challenge. “Despite a growing mountain of research demonstrating the detrimental impact of toxic building materials and increasing public awareness of this fact, change has been slow.”

Products that are accepted into the program will be allowed to bare a Declare label. Select products are listed in the database and their labels can be viewed on the brand’s website at www.declareproducts.com.
