Top 10 cities with most single-person households

Median percentage of people living alone has climbed nearly 2 percent in 10 years

While Atlanta and Washington, D.C., tied for the highest individual percentage of single-person households, the D.C. metro area featured the greatest concentration, with three cities in the top 10.

Taking a closer look at its latest data set, the Census Bureau recently published a list of the top 10 U.S. cities with the greatest percentage of single-person households, topped by Atlanta and Washington, D.C.

Business Insider also notes that the median percentage of single-person households has increased over the last decade, from 40.5 percent in 2002 to 42.1 percent today.

The full list reads as follows:

1. Atlanta – 44 percent
2. Washington, D.C. – 44 percent
3. Cincinnati – 43.4 percent
4. Alexandria, Va. – 43.4 percent
5. St. Louis – 42.6 percent
6. Pittsburgh – 41.7 percent
7. Arlington, Va. – 41.3 percent
8. Seattle – 41.3 percent
9. Cambridge, Mass. – 40.7 percent
10. Denver – 40.6 percent
