Remodeling Expenditures Up
Expenditures for improvements and repairs of residential properties in the third quarter 2000 was estimated at $149 billion, according to the U.S. Commerce Department Census Bureau. This represented an increase of 1 percent over the second quarter of 2000 and a 1.1% rise over the third quarter of 1999.
$42.5 billion of the estimated third-quarter spending was for maintenance and repairs. The remaining $106.5 billion went to improvements.
