EmailGallup: No Improvement in Consumer Confidence
Consumers continue to lack confidence that the economy is going to turn around any time soon, according to the Gallup Economic Confidence Index.
The index stood at -33 in September, flat with July and August, but down significantly from -23 a year ago. (The index measures confidence on a +/- scale where zero is considered neutral.)
In the survey, 47 percent of Americans called current economic conditions “poor.” Even more disturbing is that 62 percent of consumers said economic conditions are “getting worse.” Both of those numbers are steady with the last few months, but worse than a year ago. And despite the formal declaration that the recession has ended, 82 percent of people saw the recession as “ongoing.”
