Why create another standard? There is a process via LEED, yes it has a cost which is an issue that must be examined but fundamentally there is a standard in place. I would argue the real issue/agenda is the industry has yet to really embrace sustainable development and the creation of voluntary standards are useless other than for a tag line on an advertisement.
Recall South Florida after Hurricane Andrew, it wasn''t voluntary reforms that led to safer homes, it was code regulation, regulation that was fought viciously by an industry that is still driven largely by the bottom line. Consider the cost to those in North Florida who bought houses built by builders who successfully fought having to make changes to the way they built, many lost everything. Did builders in South Floirda suffer under the new code? No, they thrived!
The home building industry must accept it has a larger responsibility and positively and proactively embrace this role. A far better position to take is one that seeks to positively influence how LEED is developed and implemented.

lets review..the nahb has done nothing in the last 7 yrs.no national green building program,no greenmortgage,no tax incentives for homebuyers.as the green expert told the nahb research center more than 7 yrs ago green building was the future. what did the nahb research center do in the last 7 yrs? built over 7 million homes, not one green home..polluted the atmosphere with co2 gases, every home built has fallen in value, every homebuilder stock has fallen by 50%.
now 7rs later after a national green program with over 10 yrs prior existance leed is the international green building leader.
here comes nahb president brian catalde attempting to implement a nahb green building standard..more than 7 yrs late,
this is why the nahb is a national failure..no leadership..the research center is asleep at the wheel
and the entire nation has beared the cost..any idiot can review that home owners want a green home.
what did the nahb do? build not one green home in the last 7 yrs? why? because the nahb is a failure and does not know what the public requires.
and now the public has to bear the cost of the subprime market as kb presdent katz fined millions of dallars ripping off the public.

Many building professionals would like a designation or certification that identifies green builders and architects. Check out this article for more information: www.kbbonline.com/kbb/news_trends/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003600946
