Value engineering is not cost control, but the industry defines it as such these days. True value engineering is designing the building with the lowest long term cost in mind, which is first cost plus lifetime maintenance/replacement costs. When our country starts staying in their homes as long as folks in other parts of the world do, then true value engineering will a purchase factor and sales leader.
