A new kind of ‘green’ home

Company plans to build first home made of recycled shipping containers
November 5, 2010

It’s almost like working with giant LEGOs. The first home made out of shipping containers, which are typically use to carry freight across the country, will be built in Oregon.

Precision Structural Engineering said the containers offer a reusable, and readily available, source of housing for those in need. They can be used to expand vertically or horizontally, and other materials can be used to customize the shape to the homeowner’s preference.

Since the containers are made of weathered steel, the company also touts their safety and durability.
