While green is good in the long term, the upfront costs in this economy especially will be difficult to endure by first time homebuyers. Retrofits of any kind will be difficult to finance until credit lending eases.
Auto companies have had their hybrids on the lots for months. Energy prices will have to go up again for consumers to be motivated to spend long term on green housing.
Most buyers realize that their homes are not long term investments and until sizable tax breaks are included, the green option is going to be more conversation than reality.
