Association releases checklist on how to minimize lead exposure during remodeling

The National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) is planning to observe National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week to raise awareness on the dangers of lead, according to a press release on the NARI website. The event will take place Oct. 24 to 30, and this year’s theme is “Lead-Free Kids for a Healthy Future.”
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 250,000 U.S. children have elevated blood-lead levels, even though lead poisoning is considered the most preventable environmental disease for young children. NARI believes that this message is especially important in light of the new U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Lead Renovation, Repair, Painting Rule for homes built before 1978.
In honor of the week, NARI released a checklist to help minimize lead exposure to homeowners when remodeling pre-1978 homes. To see the checklist, visit the NARI website.
