Contrasting with the formality of the owners’ primary residence in Boston, this one-of-a-kind Colorado vacation home champions informal living inside and out. The rustic exterior blends beautifully with the wooded, mountaintop lot, which is just moments away from the world-famous Beaver Creek ski slopes. A combination of natural stone and hand-hewed, 2x12 spruce chinked siding lends an aged appearance to the 10,700-square-foot retreat. Jumbo cedar shake roofing tiles complete the package.

Massive stone columns support the home’s wraparound deck and balance the steep-pitched, gabled roof with its varying angles and elevations. Post and beam framing details add interest and definition to the exterior. Clusters of windows capitalize on the mountain vistas and provide plenty of natural light throughout the home.

Tucked away just behind the ski entry are an outside fire pit and a hot tub, perfect antidotes to a long day on the slopes.

  • Reclaimed, antique Spanish oak floors, hand-hewed beams and custom ironwork complement the rugged mountain surroundings.

  • Seven custom fireplaces contribute to the mountain lodge feel. A dry-stacked, moss-rock fireplace in the great room soars more than 20 feet to the trussed, vaulted ceiling. The kitchen nook’s fireplace has ceramic tiles and tumbled marble accents that integrate with the backsplashes of the work areas in the open kitchen.

  • The lower level contains a game room, a large living area and four of the six bedroom suites, all carefully laid out for privacy and spaciousness. Also on this level is the wine room, featuring intricate mesquite doors and ironwork.

  • The ski entry features a Colorado buff sandstone floor, custom cabinetry and other amenities to add comfort after a day at play on the slopes.
