As a widow at 39 years of age to a handicapped husband who is now deceased and the fiancee to a 44 year old gentleman who is in a wheelchair with MS, I have found it quite difficult to find housing that is accessible in the area we plan to live in. Although many of the city long-term plans include investigating the market and need for housing such as yours, the average middle aged couple cannot not afford to build a custom home. When it somes to rental properties they are non-existent.

I work in the healthcare profession at a large hospital and I deal with these type of patients daily and listen to their struggles to find housing that meets their needs and is affordable. Not everyone that is handicapped is over 62 and needs to be in an asssited living-like facility. Some of the most appreciate handicapped people, their spouses and/or families are in their late 30s or 40s and don't qualify for any housing. Their "specialness" may not have been the result of an accident but a terrible chronic disease process. We who care for them and love them deserve the opportunity to live in accessible and affordable housing too.

Help make a difference and give life back to some of us who have a love of life that might far out shine others!

Sincerely,

A future wife of a deserving handicapped person
