With Round Refrigerator, You're Not Boxed In

Style and function merge in Equator’s round refrigerator-freezer.
The design behind Equator’s new refrigerator was developed in a roundabout way.

“It started out as an idea to be more efficient, an energy-conservation issue, while also coming up with a different design,” says Janet Patterson, Equator’s marketing manager. “Because we’re a company always looking for interesting and unique designs, we said, ‘Why not make it round?’”

The round refrigerator-freezer offers sleek styling, a compact size (68 inches high and a 30-inch diameter) and lazy Susan-style glass shelves that pull out. It preserves food and conserves energy more efficiently, Patterson says, because the refrigerator and the bottom-mount freezer have separate compressors.

In addition, the freezer has a “fast freeze” function that makes ice in as little as an hour. This capability also allows freezer-bound foods en route from the grocery store to reach or maintain their necessary consistency and temperature faster.

Patterson notes that builders can easily build the unit into cabinetry because of its depth, “but it’s really attractive enough to stand on its own.”

Available with a burled walnut or brushed stainless steel finish, the unit retails for $3,495. For more information, visit www.equatorappliances.com.
