The Sky's the Limit

Plans for the $500 million Fordham Spire, designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, include a 20-story hotel with 200-plus luxury condo units above it priced from $600,000 to $5 million each. The proposed residences would have floor-to-ceiling windows and unobstructed floor plans. The tower itself would measure 1458 feet, and an additional steel spire would take it to 2000 feet, making it the tallest building in North America.
The twisted glass and steel structure would loom over and compete with Donald Trump's 92-story high-rise condo tower, currently under construction in Chicago with "Apprentice" Bill Rancic at the helm, for luxury condo residents. The Fordham project has yet to receive financing or city approval.
It remains to be seen whether these two towers will prove to be too much for the city's well-saturated downtown luxury condo market.
