Keeping the Sun Out

June 30, 2005

Elk's new shingle roofing has married beauty and energy conservation. Keeping in step with the move toward environmentally sensitive products, Elk and 3M partnered to produce the Cool Color Series shingle. While most home design works to bring the outdoors in, the Cool Color Series works to keep harmful sun rays out. 3M's Cool Roofing Granules contain reflective color pigments that deflect the rays of the sun. By slowing down the build up of heat and decreasing the roof's temperature, these shingles lower energy costs and consumption.

In addition to energy savings, there are more design options. The standard energy efficient, white shingle is no longer the only color. This series comes in three earth-toned colors: Cool Weatheredwood, Cool Antique Slate and Cool Barkwood and a wood shake option that is available in Cool Browncastle.
