Tools We Love

March 31, 2001

Most remodelers have a soft spot in their hearts for a particular tool or two - directly remodeling-related or otherwise. Here are some personal favorites of Dan Bawden of Legal Eagle Contractors in Houston.

  • Reciprocating saws. Bawden uses both Milwaukee and Porter-Cable.
  • Makita cordless drills, both the 7.2v and 9.6v models
  • Handspring Visor, which Bawden can attach to a digital camera to take pictures on a job site. He also can plug his cell phone into the handheld PC. "You can look up the number on the Handspring and tap on it, and it dials automatically. Then you just talk right into the Handspring."
  • Delta air cleaners. "They’re about the size of a large suitcase, and they really help keep the dust down on the job site."
  • Sears Craftsman 16-gallon shop vacuum. "There’s something satisfying about being able to suck up a big mess quickly. It really makes you look good with the customer."
