SkillsUSA-VICA steel framing competition

It’s a sure sign that steel framing is steadily moving forward as a conventional part of building homes. The annual SkillsUSA-VICA national championships this summer included steel framing as part of its carpentry competition for the first time. About 75 carpentry students from around the country participated in the event in Kansas City, Mo. Contestants received a 45-minute introduction to steel framing as well as to applicable tools and fasteners before the competition. “It was so much easier than I thought it would be,” finalist Greg Rollins said.
