Bloomingdale, N.J., restricts ground solar and wind energy installations

October 15, 2012

The borough of Bloomingdale, N.J., recently adopted regulations for solar-energy and wind energy systems. The ordinance prohibits the installation of wind turbines on residential property. Ground-mounted solar systems also are banned under the ordinance. Besides aesthetic qualms, concerns have been raised that these ground systems could impede firefighting operations. A roof-mounted solar system may be installed on a principal building or accessory building.
