Offensive vs. Defensive

My how that has changed. She said that now those garnering new deposits (i.e. cash) "run the show." They keep the bank's assets safe/out of harms way. They build up the bank's balance sheets. Those garnering new deposits are the king pins. Those garnering new deposits can do no wrong.
As a result of this sea-change, their bank's lending is down about 90%.
How are we leading our businesses in this "New Economy?" Have we shifted our entire culture to be on the defensive like the banks - or are we balancing being on the offensive with being on the defensive. I can say that I was on the defensive until a couple of months ago. But now I'm ready to throw some punches...I'm ready to find new platforms of growth - both organic and potentially some more aggressive.
