The Hunter Fan Company, well known in the market for its ceiling fan products, has developed a line of semi-flushmounted ceiling fixtures called Illumi-Heat. At first glance, the fixture looks just like a typical semi-flush ceiling mount but when I walked up to their booth in Chicago I felt a flow of warm air emanating from one of their displays. Hunter has cleverly combined a 700 watt integrated ceramic heating element with a fan blower inside this light fixture. (700 watts = 2389 BTU/HR)
The new fixtures are available in a New Bronze finish with Italian Amber Scavo Glass or a white finish with frosted glass (see above). The Hunter product manager at the show, David Turner, informed me that they will soon be releasing other sizes and finishes.
The fixture takes three 40 watt candelabra lamps and includes a remote control that allows separate adjustment for the lights and heater. This means that no additional wiring is needed to install it and this unit can be placed on an existing outlet box. Hunter has also taken this idea and made it into a light kit for a ceiling fan, so heating and cooling can come from a single source.
David suggests that the semi flush unit is ideal for a small bedroom, den or bathroom when a small space needs to be heated without turning on a whole house unit. It certainly made good sense to me in Chicago that week when the sun never appeared and the temperatures were in the low 30’s.
We currently have these heating ceiling fixtures available by special order through our Professionals Program. Give us a call if you're interested.
