Finally, LED is making some sense as a true option for energy efficient “Green” lighting in residential use. Close by our booth at the IBS in Orlando last month was one of our newest vendors LLF Inc., a manufacturer of LED recessed lighting housings and trims. Now we have a fair amount of LED on our web site, undercabinet, desk lamps and novelty items, but we’d also recently added LLF’s recessed products. I’d seen it on our site and never gave much thought to it.
Everything LED I’ve seen up until now has not had sufficient light quality for general room lighting.

I must profess my uttermost astonishment when I dropped by their booth to say hello. I was so impressed that, one by one, I took my entire booth staff over to see them. You can see a photo of their booth with the units installed above. The quantity and quality of light from these units was great! These units consume only 12 watts of power but produce the equivalent of a 65 watt reflector bulb or 18 watt compact fluorescent. They are available in a pleasing 2700K. Their color rendering properties are also exceptional with a CRI of 92. Their estimated life is around 50,000 hours 5 times that of most compact fluorescent lamps. So figuring usage at an average of 5 hours a day, you could get over 25 years out of them!

My favorite feature of this product is that they are dimmable. The lack of dimming ability or high cost of dimming compact fluorescent lamps has always been a drawback for me as a specifier and lighting designer. The LLF product overcomes this objection. Five times longer life than fluorescent, twice as efficient as fluorescent, great color temperature and color rendering properties and it’s dimmable! This product gives me new hope as a lighting designer and as one who is concerned for our environment. I’ll certainly be specifying this product whenever the opportunity arises.
