Thanks to a comprehensive letter-writing campaign by NAHB, the U.S. Census Bureau announced January 14 that it will continue to make quarterly reports on the amount spent on improving and maintaining residential structures in the U.S. through the end of 2008. The Census Bureau was planning to stop collecting this data on residential remodeling and apply the $1 million annual savings to improve coverage of the service sector. The Census Bureau, however, made no promise to continue collecting this data after 2008, so it may be a short-term victory.
