I recently attended the San Francisco Bay Area NARI Chapter meeting recently to give a presentation on Strategic Marketing for Remodelers, and David Ostrom of Collier Ostrom Remodeling Contractors shared this Top 10 Reasons NOT to Join NARI list with local members, which was written by Dale Nikula of Encore Construction in Dennisport, Mass. I got a good laugh, so I thought I'd share it with you (with the author's permission, of course). Here goes:
10) This business is easy to get into. Who needs to belong to a professional organization?
9) Why do you need to know about markup, gross profit, direct costs and all that hooey? That’s what you have an accountant for, right?
8) Who needs this NARI Certification? You already know how to swing a hammer, build a chimney, and solder a pipe or whatever!
7) What could you possibly learn from spending an evening networking with other dedicated, competent professionals that you can’t learn from your friends?
6) You work 80 hours a week. What more do you need to be successful?
5) What do you need to know about marketing? As long as you work hard and do a good job, the work will always be there.
4) Who needs more money anyway? You’re in this for craft.
3) Why invest $495.00 in yourself and your business’s future when that could buy a damn good fishing rod?
2) Why spend three hours one evening a month becoming a better business person when you could be home drinking some beer?
1) Keep making it easy for us NARI members to take the jobs from you.
